Dr. Matthew R. Shupp (re-)joined Shippensburg University in 2013 after serving as a student affairs professional for 12 years in a variety of institutional settings. His previous professional experience includes the community college, for-profit, private, and public higher education sectors.Dr. Shupp received his B.A. in Psychology as well as his M.S. in Counseling (College Student Personnel) from Shippensburg University where he served as a Residence Director for three years. He completed his Ed.D. in Higher Education Leadership at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania and received a post-master's certificate in Clinical Counseling from Messiah University. He is both a National Certified Counselor (NCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) as well as a Board Certified Tele-Mental Health Provider (BC-TMH). He is an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and licensed as a professional counselor (LPC) in the state of PA and a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in the state of MD. Dr. Shupp’s clinical work includes college counseling, in-patient hospitals, and private practice settings. He is certified as a trauma therapist and trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) modalities. Dr. Shupp is Past-President of the Pennsylvania College Personnel Association (PCPA). Most recently, Dr. Shupp was selected for addition to the Fulbright roster as a Fulbright Specialist (2021-2025).Dr. Shupp has presented at local, regional, and national higher education and student leadership conferences. His research areas of interest focus on multicultural competence and inclusive supervision, student leadership, and well-rounded (holistic) college experiences for students. A number of his scholarly articles have appeared in the Journal of College Student Development, the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, the Journal of Student Affairs, ACPA’s Developments, About Campus, Alcoholism Treatment Quarterly, and other reputable higher education publications. He has been featured on several podcasts including Student Affairs NOW and Authentically Us. He is co-author of “Inclusive Supervision in Student Affairs: A Model for Professional Practice” and co-editor of “Developing Leadership Skills and Abilities for Student Affairs Administrators: ‘Lesson Letters’ to and from our Colleagues."
