About me
Dr. Behun has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision as well as two master’s degrees in School Counseling and School Administration from Duquesne University. He also holds a third master’s in law from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Dr. Behun is licensed as a professional counselor in Pennsylvania, National Certified Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and certified PK-12 school counselor. In his early career, Dr. Behun served as a high school principal and as a middle and high school counselor. Dr. Behun has been a full-time counselor educator since 2013 and currently serves Millersville University of Pennsylvania as the graduate coordinator for the school counseling program. His scholarly activities focus on the personal and professional characteristics that influence mandated reporters’ failure to report suspected abuse as well as the impact of Internet pornography on adolescents. Dr. Behun frequently publishes in this area and routinely presents in the areas of counselor negligence, malpractice, and the legal standard of care directly impacting professional counselors. For his impact as a counselor educator and as an advocate for the counseling profession, Dr. Behun has been acknowledged at both the state and national levels. Recently, Dr. Behun was recognized by the Pennsylvania Counseling Association with the David W. Hall Advocacy Award, Outstanding Professional Teaching Award, and most recently was recognized by the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association as the Counselor Educator of the Year. Dr. Behun was the 50th president of the Pennsylvania Counseling Association and has also served as president of the Pennsylvania Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. Most notably, Dr. Behun was nominated by Governor Josh Shapiro and unanimously confirmed by the Pennsylvania State Senate to represent licensed professional counselors on the state licensure board. In 2026, Dr. Behun was elected by the state licensure board to serve as its chairman.
