About me
Dr. Cerrito is an Associate Professor and School Counseling Graduate Program Coordinator at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania - Bloomsburg. She brings 25 years of experience to the field in her work as a counselor, educator, supervisor, and leader.
Having served as a professional school counselor in Pennsylvania public schools for 12 years and as a counselor educator for 13 years, Dr. Cerrito has built collegial connections with counselors across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and around the nation. She has taught numerous courses in both general counseling and school counseling. She also regularly supervises students in field experiences as part of practicum and internship degree requirements.
Dr. Cerrito routinely collaborates with practicing school counselors through several professional associations and is regarded as an advocate and leader in the school counseling profession. She has been selected to serve on Pennsylvania Department of Education committees in developing a school counselor framework for Pennsylvania and revising the preparation standards used by Pennsylvania school counselor educators in training the next generation of professional school counselors. She currently serves as Chair of the Pennsylvania Association for Professional School Counselor Educators Consortium and President of the Pennsylvania Association for Counselor Education and Supervision. She has also recently been recognized as an Emerging Leader by the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association. Her research interests focus primarily on school and career counseling, and she frequently presents and publishes on these topics.
Dr. Cerrito has earned various professional awards including Counselor Educator of the Year by the Pennsylvania School Counselors Association, The Edwin L. Herr Fellowship for Excellence in Counseling Leadership and Scholarship by Chi Sigma Iota Academic & Professional Honor Society International, the Partner in Education Award by the Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling, the Faculty Senate Excellence in Graduate Teaching Award by the University of Scranton, the Bloomsburg University Provost’s Award for Excellence in Research and Scholarly Activity, and the Early Career Award by the Penn State Graduate School Alumni Society.
Dr. Cerrito earned a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Penn State University, a M.S. in School Counseling from the University of Scranton, and a B.A. in Psychology, Minor in Spanish, and Career Concentration in Family, Children, and Youth from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. She holds credentials including National Certified Counselor, National Certified School Counselor, and Approved Clinical Supervisor.
