From Self‑Efficacy to Employment: Practical Social Cognitive Career Theory Strategies for Disability-Inclusive Counseling

This presentation will explore the career-related needs of individuals with disabilities from a systemic perspective, paying special attention to multifaceted organizational, personal, and systemic barriers. Presenters will highlight with relevant case examples how to apply Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT; Lent et al., 1994) in career counseling with this population and practical strategies to enhance client self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and personal goals. Contextualized by structural and systemic inequities, presenters will discuss the core tenets of SCCT and provide strategies for applying SCCT when conducting career counseling with clients with disabilities.
