58th Annual PCA Conference
Saturday November 7, 2026 3:45pm - 4:45pm EST
Burnout is not a personal failure — it is an occupational hazard, and for counselors it is a matter of when, not if. This session offers a frank, evidence-based look at burnout, compassion fatigue, secondary traumatic stress, and moral injury as they uniquely affect mental health clinicians. Drawing on current (≤5-year) research, participants will learn to differentiate these overlapping phenomena, recognize the progression from stress to habitual burnout, and apply practical, evidence-supported recovery and prevention tools. From micro-recovery practices and nervous-system resets to values-guided boundary-setting and community connection, this session equips clinicians at every career stage with a personalized roadmap for sustainable practice — because the most effective tool we bring to our clients is a well-resourced version of ourselves.
