Older adults may present with a subtle yet profound clinical experience: a growing sense of “disappearing.” This can manifest itself as feeling unheard, dismissed, or disconnected from one’s identity, often shaped by sociocultural factors, life experiences, personality factors, and family dynamics. This session will explore how these experiences impact mental health and therapeutic engagement. Participants will learn how to recognize signs of perceived invisibility in older adults and apply practical, trauma-informed clinical strategies to help restore voice, agency and identity in later adulthood.
