The ACA Code of Ethics 2026: What Has Changed? (1.5 CE)

The Counseling Profession uses a code of ethics to help ensure client safety and wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of professional counselors, counselor educators, counseling students, and counseling researchers (ACA, 2014, 2026; Mabe & Rollins, 1986). The ACA Code of Ethics helps to guide ACA members in the ethical decision-making process, defining professional counseling, and outlining what is expected of professional counselors (ACA, 2014, 2026).
The ACA Code of Ethics “holds ACA members to the highest professional ethical standards in the practice of counseling” (ACA, 2026 p. 1). As such, the ACA Code of Ethics is updated at least every ten years to remain relevant to the professional practice of counseling and the clients we serve.
This session will highlight the significant changes made in the revision of the ACA Code of Ethics (2026) using PowerPoint presentation, discussion, and handouts. The target audience members are professional counselors, counselor educators, counseling researchers, and counseling students.
This presentation ties into the theme “Embracing the Journey: Leading Through Change and Transition” because this is precisely what we are asking attendees to do…embrace the changes made in The ACA Code of Ethics (2026) and transition their practice of counseling accordingly.
