Our country has become a hostile place for immigrants. The purpose of this session is to raise awareness about the strain and trauma experienced by immigrants and the legal rights of immigrants, and to suggest ethically sound and culturally sensitive advocacy counseling with immigrant populations. The presenters will also discuss self-care strategies counselors can use to keep themselves safe and mentally strong amid the emotionally challenging work of supporting immigrants who are living in constant fear. This session will conclude with information about how counselors can partner with immigrant services organizations to serve and advocate for the rights of people in immigrant communities.
