58th Annual PCA Conference
Friday November 6, 2026 2:15pm - 3:15pm EST
Counselor burnout is usually talked about as if it’s just an individual problem, with advice like “practice self-care” or “set boundaries.” That misses the bigger picture; the systems we work in and the way supervisors respond can have a huge impact. In this session, I’ll share how my own experiences with burnout, and the responses I received from supervisors, shaped the way I intentionally designed my group practice around counselor wellness, sustainability, and ethical leadership. We’ll look at the systemic and supervisory factors that drive burnout, explore leadership strategies for managing transitions and change, and discuss concrete ways to create a psychologically safe, supportive practice environment. You’ll leave with practical ideas you can use in your own setting to support both staff well-being and organizational health.
