58th Annual PCA Conference
Friday November 6, 2026 5:30pm - 6:00pm EST
Anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent psychiatric disorders and can significantly interfere with social, interpersonal, and academic functioning among children and adolescents. While cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is seen as the gold standard therapeutic technique, animal-assisted therapy (AAT) has emerged as a promising alternative to traditional ‘talk’ therapy. Equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) is a popular experiential approach that can reduce symptoms of anxiety through building emotional regulation skills and increasing self-image. This session aims to provide participants with an understanding of the process of EAP and how participating in groundwork activities with horses can facilitate improvements in anxiety symptoms.
