The topic of trauma and trauma-informed care is slowly being integrated into society and our work as counselors; however, trauma has always existed. Trauma affects numerous areas of an individual’s life, including but not limited to, their mental health, physical health, and brain chemistry. It is imperative that counselors and emerging professionals understand the neuroscience behind trauma and how it impacts clients. This session will provide counseling professionals and graduate students with the knowledge and information on how the profession is leading more into trauma-informed care and looking to enhance and transition to a neuroscience-based view of trauma. Through these changes and transition, counselors, supervisors, graduate students, and educators will be able to serve clients better and understand therapeutic interventions that can be used when working with clients who have experienced trauma.
