Counselor education is experiencing rapid transformation as programs adapt to technological innovation, evolving student needs, and shifting professional expectations. Consistent with the theme “Embracing the Journey: Leading Through Change and Transition,” this session explores how counselor educators can thoughtfully navigate emerging changes in the training landscape. Key topics include the growth of online and hybrid instruction, the increasing presence of artificial intelligence in higher education and counselor training, and evolving gatekeeping responsibilities within counselor education programs. Participants will meet faculty from a CACREP-accredited counselor education department who will introduce and examine ethical, pedagogical, and professional considerations associated with these developments and discuss strategies for maintaining strong professional standards while embracing innovation. This presentation highlights the leadership role of counselor educators in guiding the profession through periods of transition while preparing future counselors for a rapidly evolving practice environment.
